Big Brothers Grace and Mikey reflect on pressure after show ahead of its epic return

It's been over 16 years since we watched Grace Adam-Short and Mikey Dalton fall in love in the Big Brother house, and the couple's romance has only gone from strength to strength in the years that followed.

Grace, 38, and Mikey, 40, both starred on the hit reality TV show in 2006, alongside the likes of Pete Bennett, Imogen Thomas and Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace.

The loved-up pair left the house as a couple and continued their romance in the outside world, despite admitting they faced "pressure" to split up.

Mikey told new! magazine: “It felt like from every angle people were, at first, trying for us to get together and then once we were together and happy, everyone was like yeah so if you guys could just split up that would be better pictures.”

He noted that Big Brother was "such an intense show" back in 2006 as it attracted huge attention from the media, which added pressure to contestants during their time on the show and after.

However, Mikey told new! that when he looks back on his reality TV stint he just has "really fond memories" of Big Brother, and compared appearing on the show to a "gap year".

"We were young, early twenties mid-20s, and we were just going for kind of, a summer of enjoyment. Like maybe, a gap year or travelling," he said, as wife Grace agreed.

After meeting in the Big Brother house, Grace and Mikey have gone on to tie the knot, move in together and start a family. The couple married in 2009 – three years after meeting – despite people doubting their romance.

Grace told us: “We always had people saying: ‘They’re not real,’ but we never paid any attention to it. We’ve always just done what is right for us. We got engaged quite quickly, after four months, but we took our time planning our wedding."

The pair are now parents to four children, Georgiana, Spencer, Allegra and baby Atticus, who was born in January 2022. Grace and Mikey are based in Liverpool and also share a pet dog. Mikey is now a property developer while Grace is a stay-at-home mum.

Big Brother is set to make its highly anticipated return to TV screens on Sunday 8 October at 9pm. The new series will air on ITV for the very first time. The show will be hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best and will take place at a new set in London.
