Krishnan Guru-Murthy’s family feared for him after Strictly exit
Krishnan Guru-Murthy has said those around him thought he was having a “breakdown” after his Strictly Come Dancing exit. The Channel 4 newsreader spoke out in view of his 54,000 Instagram followers today, ahead of return to the show in tonight’s 2023 final.
The 53-year-old, who was partnered with Lauren Oakley, became the seventh celebrity to get the boot last month. He has now said he found leaving the competition “really difficult” and “cried for a week”.
In a candid online video, Krishnan said it had been tough but he now had a “sense of perspective” on what had happened. He left the series on November 12 following a dance-off against Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington.
The star explained in the upload: “Going out of Strictly was really difficult. Much more emotional than I ever imagined. I basically cried for a week, it was terrible.”
Krishnan continued: “I’m sure all my friends and colleagues thought I was having some sort of weird breakdown. I feel better in myself now and have more of a sense of perspective on what it is that we did.

“And how amazing it was and what you get out of it.”
Following his Strictly goodbye, a former star of the programme reached out to him.
He detailed: “Somebody messaged me after I came out, someone who had done the show before and said, ‘Nothing is quite as bright as the lights of Strictly’.
“I thought, I really hope that’s not true, because what I hope you get out of Strictly is to find the light and the colour and the joy and the happiness in other things.

“And seek it out more aggressively. That is what I’ve got out of this show.”
Krishnan said his best moments in Strictly were when it was him and Lauren in the rehersal room, learning something new.
He then added: “It’s so disorientating when you come out, because your body’s raring to go.”
The journalist explained that this was why he’d signed up for the live tour, where he will dance with Jowita Przystal due to Lauren’s previous work commitments.
Strictly Come Dancing 2023 concludes tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
