The actor had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and was open about his experience.<\/p>\n

Lindsay Posner, who directed the play The End Of Longing, written by and starring Perry, told Radio 4\u2019s Today programme: \u201cHe was always very, very warm and generous.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was very keen to be thought of as a serious actor, a comic actor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a bit worried because he\u2019d never done any stage acting before… but he\u2019d honed his craft with Friends in front of a live audience for years and years and it showed. You couldn\u2019t tell he\u2019d never been on a London stage before.\u201d<\/p>\n

The End Of Longing was an autobiographical play about addiction and Posner said Perry had told him that \u201che would like to be remembered for helping people through the play… helping people to recover.\u201d<\/p>\n
