Layton Williams has compared his previous dance experience with his participation in Strictly Come Dancing to “a plumber trying to be an electrician.”

This comes after the BBC faced claims of a fix due to two of their 2023 contestants having previous professional dance experience.

The 28-year-old actor spoke to the press at a Strictly roundtable event ahead of his debut in the BBC ballroom, where he was asked about his previous dance endeavours.

He said: “Yeah, well, of course, there’s going to be moments that will feel more comfortable being in the rehearsal room and use and dancing and stuff like that.

“However, I can’t stress enough how different [it is]. It’s like a plumber trying to be an electrician. I don’t even know what them two things are, but it’s just not the same.”

Or I might be like, ‘Actually, you know what? Can we all just cool down?’”

“Let’s see. I’m excited for the ride,” he added. “And I’m excited to learn new things. So just swim into the deep end.”

Layton is an alumni of the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. And then hopefully the next week, in notes on your feet or whatever, you can come back and make sure that they’re together.”
