Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper is suffering from a “choking condition”.

The former political adviser fell seriously ill with Covid-19 back in 2020, which left him in a coma for ten weeks and resulted in long-lasting damage to his organs.

Since his first return home from hospital in April 2021, the 56-year-old has been relying on around-the-clock carers for his everyday needs.

Kate, 56, has now issued a heartbreaking update as she revealed how doctors had to save him from turning blue last weekend.

TV work takes me out of myself and takes my focus offmy family’s worries. And it’s fantastic doing the documentaries [about Derek] and this book, because it really feels like doing good,” she continued.

Kate went on to say she will “never give up” on her spouse and wants to continue championing the cause for those also caring for a loved one.

“I know people are drowning trying to navigate through the care system. We talk about a crisis but it is beyond crisis.

“It is very lonely and very difficult, and I at least do have that voice.”
