The Spice Girls are reportedly reuniting to create a jukebox musical movie.

The girl band have entered ‘advanced negotiations’ for a film featuring their greatest hits, according to reports.

The news comes 26 years after the band’s cult classic movie Spice World was released and became a box office smash hit.

The 1997 flick saw the girls play fictionalised versions of themselves in the lead up to a major concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Beloved: The news comes 26 years after the band’s cult classic movie Spice World was released and became a box office smash hit

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: ‘Everyone is very excited about this script but it will be a totally different number to Spice World.

‘The girls aren’t appearing in it, but it’s essentially a gentle, upbeat coming of age story – a jukebox musical – about a kid who’s obsessed with the Spice Girls.

‘Style-wise, it is very much like Take That’s recent Great Days movie which was adapted from their stage show. It will be endorsed by the band – all five have signed off on the project- and it will feature several of their songs.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives of the Spice Girls for comment.

They add that Geri Horner is leading the charge and speaking to the producer regularly and that she is eager to make the film a hit.

The band will be hoping the proposed film is more successful than their ill-fated West End musical, Viva Forever.

The jukebox musical opened in 2012 and received huge negative reviews from critics.

It was announced in May 2013 that the show would close after only seven months, with a loss of ‘at least £5 million’ due to poor ticket sales.

The movie news comes after Geri shut down rumours that the Spice Girls will reunite to perform at Glastonbury next year to mark their 30th anniversary.

Unsuccessful: The band will be hoping the proposed film is more successful than their ill-fated West End musical, Viva Forever

Reports had claimed that all five original members would reunite in 2024 for a headline slot at Worthy Farm.

Ginger Spice, 51, has now denied that the Emma Bunton, 47, Mel Brown, 48, Mel Chisholm, 49, and Victoria Beckham, 49, are getting back together to headline the Pyramid Stage.

She revealed that it was never on the cards to reunite for the festival but teased that there might be something coming soon.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, she hinted: ‘At some point there will be something.’

The band last took to the stage in 2019 for an incredible 13-date UK tour however, Posh Spice was absent.

Recently it was rumoured that Geri, Emma, Mel B and Mel C have provisionally agreed to tour dates in 2024, with previously absent Victoria ‘bringing ideas to the table’.

A source told The Sun: ‘Victoria will be 50 next year, and the girls turning 30 seems like two anniversaries too good to miss.

Sad news: The movie news comes after Geri shut down rumours that the Spice Girls will reunite to perform at Glastonbury next year to mark their 30th anniversary

Reunite: Reports had claimed that all five original members would reunite in 2024 for a headline slot at Worthy Farm (pictured 2007)

‘The girls have discussed a documentary which would show never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes footage plus present-day interviews. All five are on board to mark 30 years in some way, shape or form. It’s very exciting.’

The band formed in 1994, with debut single Wannabe reaching the top of the charts in 37 countries in 1996.

The band took a hiatus in 2000 when Victoria left the band and briefly reunited in 2007 for a worldwide tour with tickets for their London O2 gig selling out in two minutes.

Five years later all five members performed at the London Olympics closing ceremony.
