Craig Revel Horwood, 56, was replaced on Strictly Come Dancing by Cynthia Erivo, 34, due to Craig contracting Covid. The Strictly judge has revealed what he thought of his replacement and how it felt to be watching the show as a guest for once.

She did a great job

Cynthia replaced Craig on musicals week, due to the judge self-isolating after contracting Covid, leaving him unable to do his job.

The West End star was no stranger to the world of musicals having performed in The Colour Purple, Sister Act and The Last Five Years.

Speaking to the MailOnline, Craig revealed what he thought about his Strictly replacement for Musicals Week, believing she did a “wonderful job”.

He penned: “It was brilliant to be replaced with someone so amazing and I think she did a great job.

“She was so interesting and that’s all one can hope for.”

Cynthia also replaced Motsi Mabuse on last week’s show due to the judge self isolating as a coronavirus precaution.

The West End star divided opinion, with one disgruntled viewer telling her “never” to appear on the panel again.

The note left read: “Please never judge on Strictly again.

“Ruined 2 weeks in a row with your horrendous scoring.”

Cynthia captioned the message: “@BBC STRICTLY SPLITTING OPINIONS!!!”

The night before on Saturday, Cynthia had posted an Instagram story directed at Strictly, captioned: “You owe me nothing – thank you for having me.”

This comes after fans were “screaming” at their TV screens on Saturday in frustration of the West End star’s scoring.

She scored Dan Walker and dance partner Nadia Bychkova higher than strong favourite AJ Odudu and partner Kai Widdrington, which proved controversial.

The choice to “overmark” Dan was labelled “all kinds of wrong” by some furious fans.

Fan Jana took to social media to challenge: “Dan gets a 9 from Cynthia but AJ gets an 8 from her? Nah, not having that… #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”

Maxinecarridice commented on Strictly’s Instagram: “We missed Motsi tonight. Please stop underscoring this couple judges.”

Cynthia was also met with plenty of public support for her time on Strictly, with fans taking to social media to share their thoughts.

LD_Sth said: “Please keep Cynthia Erivo, she’s a great addition to the judging panel. A breath of fresh air!”

PaulCulshaw1983 added: “#CynthiaErivo is just SMASHING #Strictly – haven’t witnessed that much class since #DarceyBussell.”

There will be a full judging panel on Saturday with Motsi returning to her seat, along with fellow judges Anton Du Beke, Shirley Ballas and Craig.

You can watch Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday on BBC One at 6.40pm.
