The photograph, which appeared to have entertained Piers Morgan, was snapped on the day a then-19-year-old Michael had won the same prize in 1998, which had made him the youngest person to take home the prestigious trophy.
Of course, that was until Emma, 19, scooped up the award on Sunday.

On his Twitter page, the former Good Morning Britain star tagged Michael in a retweet from Emma, who wrote: “Never normally see things online but was just sent the funniest thread… you are too funny out there.”
The comment was in regards to Michael’s post on Sunday, when he posted the pic of winning Sports Personality of the Year to praise Emma’s success.
He wrote: “Congratulations to @EmmaRaducanu who thoroughly deserves to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year 2021.
“Makes me feel very old that she’s the same age as I was waaaaay back in 1998.” (sic)
Michael’s tweet, which has amassed north of 8,000 likes on the social media platform, left fans wailing as they utilised his congratulatory remark to post references to their own lives.
@Hindson87 wrote: “Well done Emma here’s a picture of me eating a sausage roll a few weeks ago.”
@shakyboy88 continued: “Congratulations Emaa, heres a pic of me dressed as a traffic cone.” (sic)
“Congratulations Emma, here’s a picture of me winning the best tame tawny owl in Ferndale competition in 1982,” @designdforlife quipped.
It wasn’t long before more fans carried on with the viral trend, with one user congratulating Emma in his tweet before insisting that his chipolata resembled a dog.
Another user followed suit by posting a throwback photo of themselves at a Dennis the Menace event.
One fan even asked the latter to pay their gas bill in their complimentary message.
@Gemma45Riles jested: “Congratulations Emma! Here’s my latest gas meter read. If you could pass it on to British Gas I’d be greatful. But mostly, congratulations.” (sic)
Meanwhile, Emma made history subsequent to beating fellow tennis player Leylah Fernandez at the US Open in an undeniably exhilarating final in September.
She became the first British woman since Virginia Wade in 1997 to win a major title and the first-ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam.
Though the Kent local was ranked No. 150 when she first entered the competition, following her incredible win, her position soared into the top 30, and she became £1.8million richer.
The Bromley teenager has seen her life change in merely a year, having just completed her education as a sixth-form student at Newstead Wood School earlier this year.
With her newfound fame and rise to stardom, though, Emma has signed a string of deals to become the ambassador of several companies, including British Airways.
Earlier this week, she announced her partnership with the latter as she tweeted to her 622,000 followers: “Thrilled to join the @British_Airways family as a global brand ambassador!
“The airline has already been part of a special time for me, flying me home from the US Open.”
She concluded: “I look forward to working with the iconic British brand on some exciting projects!”
