More than a month after she was found dead at her Florida home, autopsy report reveals that the gold medalist was eight months pregnant and undergoing labor at the time of her death in May.
AceShowbiz -Olympian Tori Bowie‘s cause of death has been revealed as complications of childbirth. According to an autopsy report obtained by multiple outlets, the U.S. Olympic champion sprinter was estimated to be eight months pregnant and in active labor at the time of her death.
The report from the Orange County (Fla.) Medical Examiner Office said Tori had a “well developed fetus.” Per USA Today’s report, officials said possible complications the 32-year-old athlete had included respiratory distress and eclampsia, when a person develops seizures following a sudden spike in high blood pressure during pregnancy.
“Eclampsia typically occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy. It’s rare and affects less than 3% of people with preeclampsia. Eclampsia can cause complications during pregnancy and requires emergency medical care,” the Cleveland Clinic says.
The manner of death was ruled natural, the medical examiner determined.
Tori was found dead at her Florida home on Tuesday, May 2 after a welfare check was carried out by Orange County deputies. Family and friends had grown increasingly concerned after not hearing from Tori for several days, which prompted the welfare check.
Sheriff’s deputies discovered her in bed and the medical examiner had ruled she died of natural causes. Her shocking passing was confirmed in a statement released by her management company the following day.
It said, “We’re devastated to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion… a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends.”
Fellow U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles was among those to offer tributes to the late athlete, tweeting, “I can’t believe this. I had just heard word of her going to be with her sister back home and now this. This breaks my heart to hear and I will keep the family in my prayers.”
