Rapper Octavian has been accused of ‘physical, verbal and psychological abuse’ by his former partner.
His ex Hana, known as @emobaby4real, shared a statement on Instagram and Twitter in which she alleged that the rapper attacked her with a hammer and screwdriver, threatened to kill her and pressured her to have an abortion.
Octavian, who won the BBC Sound of 2019, appeared to deny the allegations on his Instagram stories, writing: ‘Liars can’t lie forever. Someone waits, does that right before my album to try ruin my life and I’m the bad guy… Kmt. The truth is coming. Don’t beg friend after.’
The 24-year-old, full name Octavian Oliver Godji, added: ‘Kmt… all this just cause I broke up with a girl. Evidence that the girl is obsessed and will never let me alone or let me win coming soon.
‘I will not speak without evidence. What u are witnessing is real life abuse. Good will win.’
A publicist for Octavian told Metro.co.uk: ‘After these allegations have come to light, we have stopped all work with Octavian as we cannot condone, nor support abusive behaviour.’
Following the allegations, Dua Lipa denounced the rapper, writing on her Instagram story: ‘F*** Octavian. For anyone who is suffering from domestic violence/abuse here is some info that might be of some help. Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask for help.’
The popstar shared the numbers for various domestic abuse helplines, as well as sharing early warning signs of abuse and signs that someone you know could be experiencing abuse.
In a lengthy statement, Hana alleged that she was abused until she ‘finally left’ in April 2020, and wrote: ‘A police report has been made which is taking a little longer as I am in a different country for my own safety and wellbeing.’
It appears from Hana’s Instagram posts that she is residing in Dubai.
She alleged: ‘The first instance of physical abuse came shortly after I fell pregnant with his child. After pressuring me to get an abortion he attacked me for the first time, kicked me in the stomach, burst my lip, attacked me with a hammer and threatened to kill me. I was shortly later asked to sign an NDA in attempt to “gag” me for 20k, which I didn’t sign.’
Hana continued: ‘I was frequently kicked, punched, strangled and dragged out of the house with my clothing or hair, he would smash furniture and threaten me with a bat, or attack me with other items like a screwdriver.’
She claimed that she was sharing her story because she didn’t want anybody looking up to Octavian as he prepares to release his album Alpha.
Hana noted an interview with DJ Semtex in which Octavian discusses a song called My Head which she alleges is ‘about violently killing me with a machete’.
According to Crack magazine, the interview was on Spotify’s Who We Be Talks podcast, with Octavian saying: ‘I was breaking up with my girl, my girl was in the studio… I was writing these lyrics. Everything on that track is about a moment. It’s very basic, exactly what was happening in that time. All these dark thoughts I had in my head.’
The song features the lyrics: ‘Been thinkin’ ’bout killing you, baby (You f***in’ b****).’
Hana proceeded to share pictures of injuries she alleged were inflicted on her by her ex.
The photos included red marks on her neck, a bruise on her big toe and bruises on her back and upper arm, above a tattoo of a heart with ‘Octo’ written across it.
Hana also shared a video in which a woman, believed to be her, cried and screamed as she tussled with an unseen person.
The following video, separate to the violent tussle, saw Octavian sitting on a sofa and saying ‘record me and put me on the internet’.
He is also heard saying he would ‘beat the s*** out of you because you’re a f***ing c***’.
On his Instagram story, Octavian seemed to address the video, writing: ‘Evidence that that video is me trying to get my phone to book an uber to leave… coming soon.’
Hana also alleged that her ex ‘set out to control me in our relationship, first insisting I work for him and then asking me to move in’.
She wrote: ‘I assumed this was out of love but later realised it was a tactical ploy to control my life.’
Hana alleged that Octavian tried to control what she wore and censored her Instagram, and that she ‘wasn’t able to communicate with others without being put down or accused of being too friendly or “approachable” which would result in punishment from him’.
She claims that after she began to file a legal case in April, Octavian apologised and claimed he had begun therapy sessions, but she ‘quickly realised he planned to keep me close again in the hope that I would drop my case’.
In the wake of the allegations, Octavian’s name has been trending on social media, with many denouncing the rapper.
Octavian released his first mixtape, 22, in 2016, but his career gained momentum after Drake sang along to one of his tracks at a 2018 Golden Globes party.
In 2019, he won the BBC Sound of 2019 poll, beating out artists including slowthai and Rosalia, and has collaborated with artists including Skepta, Future, Diplo and Gorillaz.
The Papi Chulo rapper’s first studio album, Alpha, is set for release tomorrow.
