Madonna's tour-postponing medical emergency earlier this year resulted in two days comatose, it's been revealed.
Back in July, the 65 year old pop star came down with a "serious bacterial infection" and was subsequently placed in intensive care, but the details have escaped the public domain until now.
Performing in Brooklyn, New York over the weekend, she told the adoring crowd that lung and kidney failure caused her to pass out on her bathroom floor.
"There are some very important people in the room tonight that were with me at the hospital," said Madonna.
"There's one very important woman who dragged me to the hospital. I don't even remember; I passed out on my bathroom floor and woke up in the ICU… I was in an induced coma for 48 hours. She saved my life. Thank you, Shavawn."
Madonna also went on to pay tribute to her Kabbalah teacher, telling the gig-goers that his was "the only voice I heard" while she was in the coma. "I heard him say, 'Squeeze my hand.'"
She added: "When I first became conscious and I saw my six incredible children sitting around me – by the way, I had to almost die to get all my kids in one room."
Her two biological kids are Lourdes and Rocco, while David, Mercy, and twins Stella and Estere are adopted.
This onstage insight wasn't the first time Madonna has addressed her terrifying health battle on this tour, either, as the musician previously told a London crowd: "It was a crazy year for me as well and I didn't think I was going to make it, neither did my doctors.
"I forgot five days of my life, or my death, I don't really know where I was. But the angels were protecting me and my children were there, and my children always save me every time."
At the very same concert, which took place at the iconic O2 Arena, Madonna opened her set with blistering renditions of Nothing Really Matters and Into the Groove.
"Am I imagining this?" she asked the crowd. "Oh my God, it is so good to be back London. I'm pretty damned surprised that I made it this far and I mean that on so many levels… How did I make it this far? Because of you. I'm going to take a bit of credit too."
However, a technical glitch momentarily had her fans questioning the entry prices.
"This is exactly what you don't want to happen on your opening night so this wasn't planned. I'm sorry," she told them. To fill time, Madonna then recalled how difficult things were when she was in her first band and was "broke and hungry and making zero cash".
Apparently, she'd "date men who had showers and bath tubs" because she had no alternative means to wash. The singer recalled asking "cute" guys if they lived alone and had a shower before asking them to go on dates.
