Clarkson’s Farm star Jeremy Clarkson has sparked outrage following his comments about climate activist Greta Thunberg after she attended the Cop26 conference last week. In his column at the weekend, the Top Gear star, 61, branded the climate change campaigner, 18, an “annoying little bucket of ego” and “a pest”, before adding that she “needed a smacked bottom”.

Addressing Greta’s presence at the climate change summit, Jeremy said: “I simply don’t get the Thunberg phenomenon.

“She has no knowledge of how the world works, no manners and no letters after her name because instead of going to school, she’s been busy sailing round the world so she can be mardy and abusive to grown-ups.

“What she needs is a smacked bottom,” he added to The Sunday Times in his latest column.

But the Diddly Squat farm owner’s comments have since sparked outrage on social media, with some branding his words inappropriate.

Cormac O’Connor wrote: “61 year old Jeremy Clarkson calling for 18 year old Greta Thunberg to have her bottom smacked deserves a far more WTAF???? response than it got.

“Middle aged white men using column inches to have pops at a young girl who is concerned about the environment is just f*****g weird.”

While Rick Cross added: “What riles the old men is that deep down they know that Greta is the grown up and they are the naughty boys who should long ago have learned to take responsibility and make a useful contribution to society!”

Crail Pam asked: “What is it about Greta Thunberg that makes all old guys get angry and defensive?

“Brilliant to see so many young people in Glasgow caring about this planet.”

James Beard commented: “That Jeremy Clarkson thought it was ok to write that Greta Thunberg needs ‘a smacked bottom’…”

He added: “I simply cannot fathom. What year have I time-travelled back to exactly?”

However, Jeremy’s column also saw many social media users in agreement with the star.

Siding with the presenter, Outspoken Sphere wrote: “Truth hurts, well done Jeremy.”

While Carol Williams said that Jeremy represented the “silent majority’s” views on the climate activist.

She penned: “if I hadn’t thought he was wonderful before I do now!

“The article was succinct and bang on regarding Greta Thunberg and the mass hysteria that follows her, he definitely spoke for the silent majority. More please!”

This isn’t the first time that Jeremy has been vocal about his dislike of Greta.

The star was promoting Amazon Prime Video’s The Grand Tour when he slammed Greta in 2019.

Speaking on Australian TV show Sunrise, Jeremy said: “She’s mad and she’s dangerous and she’s causing young children sleepless nights with her idiocy.

“No, I think she needs to go back to school and shut up,” he added.
