Sofia Vergara made her millions portraying the feisty mother who had everything beauty, humor and a loving family…and on the surface it seemed as though the actress had found a real life fairytale ending with husband Joe Manganiello.
But that illusion was dramatically shattered today when the Modern Family star announced that she has split from Joe after seven years of marriage.
The announcement comes after fellow actor Manganiello, 46, sparked speculation about the state of their relationship after posting a ‘cold’ birthday tribute for Vergara last week.
While fans may have been stunned to see the couple’s seemingly blissful romance come to an end it in fact marks just the latest in a long line of romantic and personal tragedies that the starlet has had to weather.

Professionally Vergara has gone from strength to strength becoming the highest paying actress in the world in 2020 and going on to maintain a consistent ranking in the top five, raking in an eyewatering $43 million last year alone.
But behind the scenes her life is far from a success story.
Despite holding audience’s in thrall with her beauty and talent the Venezuelan-born actress, 51, has suffered a tumultuous love life over the years.
The America’s Got Talent judge has been married twice, engaged a third time without making it down the aisle, and was even briefly linked to Tom Cruise.
Outside of her rocky romantic life Sofia has also suffered through multiple tragedies; she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28, dealt with the devastating death of one brother who was fatally shot in 1998 and then had to watch her other brother be deported from the US in 2011 after he was arrested for drug possession.
As Sofia’s personal life hits another hurdle, DailyMail.com lays bare the most devastating details of one of Hollywood’s brightest stars.

Before breaking into the television and film industry Vergara married her childhood sweetheart Joe Gonzalez in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia at just 18.
The 1991 nuptials came when Vergara, who rose to become one of the industry’s highest paid, was a fledgling model, having been scouted by an agency while on a Colombian beach at 17.
Photos of the wedding, exclusively revealed by DailyMail.com showed the brunette beauty in a dramatic long-sleeve cream gown that featured elaborate pearl beading, gloves, a matching head piece and long veil.
Her hair was pulled back and she wore heavy make-up including lashings of red lipstick.

The couple had a baby a year later, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, now 31, but the relationship broke down two years after tying the knot and Vergara divorced her first husband aged 20.
Vergara revealed in 2016 that being a single mother so young was tough, but cemented her bond with her only son.
‘I was really young when I divorced his father, so I give him the best that I could,’ the actress told People magazine in 2016, explaining that she now finds it ‘very rewarding’ to hear compliments about her son.
Rollercoaster engagement to Nick Loeb: stars had on-again-off-again romance before getting embroiled in bitter custody battle over frozen embryos
Vergara met businessman Nick Loeb in 2010, the couple had a tumultuous on-and-off relationship until they split in 2014
When the couple split before making it down the aisle, an ugly custody battle broke out over their frozen embryos
Pro-life Loeb filed a right-to-live lawsuit against his ex Vergara, and claimed that the embryos which he named ‘Emma’ and ‘Isabella’ were being deprived of an inheritance trust
After briefly being linked to Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise the Vergara became engaged again, this time to businessman Nick Loeb who she met in 2010.
Eager to have the chance to start a family, the couple created embryos in 2013 that were then frozen at a Beverly Hills fertility clinic.
The on-again off-again couple signed a contract stating neither party could use the embryos without other’s consent.
However, when the couple split the next year before making it down the aisle, an ugly custody battle broke out between the former lovers.
Vergara did not want Loeb to bring the embryos to term, and pro-life Loeb, who wanted them put in a surrogate, took the fight to the courts where it remained a bitter wrangle for years.
Loeb filed a right-to-live lawsuit against Vergara, and claimed that the embryos which he named ‘Emma’ and ‘Isabella’ – were being deprived of an inheritance trust that he created for them.
Loeb dropped a separate lawsuit against Vergara in California when a judge ruled he would have to identity two women who had abortions after he impregnated them.
Finally, in 2021 a judge ruled in Vergara’s favor and imposed a permanent injunction to stop Loeb from accessing them.
Unwilling to accept this Loeb is suing the fertility clinic, ART Reproductive Center in Beverly Hills, claiming its doctors never made him aware that the embryos would be destroyed, or that Sofia could block him from accessing them, if they split.
It remains unclear whether the embryos remain intact.
Much dirty laundry was aired during the dispute, including an explosive letter Loeb penned, which revealed the ‘screaming fights’ the couple endured throughout their tempestuous relationship.
The letter, filed in court, revealed how Loeb branded his ex-fiancé as ‘classless’ for speaking her mother tongue at the dinner table and accused of attempting to ‘humiliate’ him.
He wrote: ‘What I do not like and what I will not put up with anymore is the Spanish, and no I do not like hanging out with you when you speak in Spanish with others at the table.’
Adding: ‘Not only is it rude and disrespectful, it is classless. And for you to then berate, embarrass and humiliate me in front of others when I ask you to stop is not happening anymore.’
The letter also reportedly details their explosive rows and screaming matches, including a fight which saw Sofia ‘banging on the door like a maniac’ after he shut himself in the bathroom.

Fans were thrilled for Vergara when she began dating Joe Manganiello two months after her final split from Loeb.

Vergara’s followers believed the unlucky-in-love beauty had finally found the one Magic Mike hunk Manganiello.
However, signs of cracks in the picture perfect image began to show when in May they listed their Beverly Hills love nest for $18m.
It was not the first time they listed the property – they had tried before in July 2022 when they put it on the market for $20m.
Vergara originally purchased the house in 2014 for $10.6m before she tied the knot with Manganiello.
Then last Monday Manganiello shared a low-resolution photo of him and his wife cuddled up for her 51st birthday as she celebrated her big day in Italy.
The Magic Mike actor kept the caption simple for his 2.7million fans as he wrote: ‘¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!’
The announcement of their split, first reported by Page Six, came days later.
In a statement, the couple shared: ‘We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.’
A source added: ‘Sofía and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future.’
Entertainment Tonight claimed that the divorce has been coming for a long time.
‘They have been spending time apart and focusing on themselves, their careers, and their loved ones,’ the insider claimed.
‘Sofia has been giving her all to her new beauty brand, toty, and is very involved and excited about it.
‘She hosted an event to celebrate the launch towards the end of June at her home in Los Angeles, and Joe was not there. She did still have a framed photo of the two of them kissing set up in a room in her home.’
Outside of her rocky romantic life Sofia has also suffered through multiple tragedies: The heartbreaking death of her older brother, the deportation of another brother and a cancer diagnosis
Vergara’s brother, Julio, was deported from the US in 2011 after he was arrested for drug possession
As well as her romantic entanglements, Vergara has also suffered tragedy in her family life.
Her older brother, Rafael, then 28, was fatally shot in an attempted kidnapping in Colombia in 1998.
The actress then had to watch another brother, Julio, be deported from the US in 2011 after he was arrested for drug possession.
Julio was arrested five times in Dade County, Florida in 2010 on various charges including possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to supply.
He was arrested again in 2011 for possession of marijuana, held for five days in a county correctional facility before being released into the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
He was deported back to Colombia a few weeks later.
In 2000 Vergara was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer, aged just 28.
‘At 28 years old during a routine doctor’s visit, my doctor felt a lump in my neck,’ Vergara later told a Stand Up To Cancer telecast.
‘They did a lot of tests and finally told me I had thyroid cancer.’
The star underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland, as well as radiation and now takes a thyroid hormone pill every day.
‘I feel very lucky,’ Vergara told Health magazine. ‘In a lot of woman, the cancer isn’t found until around menopause, and by then it’s too late.’
