Martin Roberts, 58, is one of the stars set to appear on the reality series The Real Full Monty. The Homes Under the Hammer presenter will be stripping off to raise money for charity in the upcoming show.

However, Martin has now shared the poignant story behind his decision to sign up.

Posting earlier tonight on Instagram, he wrote: “I’m doing The Real Full Monty in memory of my best mate of 35 years, David Hughes.

“He was the same age as me, and 6 years ago he was diagnosed with Bowel cancer.

“Two years later, aged 54, he died, leaving a wife and two teenage daughters.”

Martin then added how his death “devastated all of us.”

The presenter added: “If my involvement in The Real Full Monty encourages even just one person to get checked out sooner than they otherwise would have done.

“And thereby avoid the pain and suffering that David and his family have gone through, then this will have been the most important show I’ve ever been involved in.

“I’ll be dancing and getting my kit off all to help raise awareness for cancer research!.”

The series is all about raising awareness of life-changing cancer checks.

Alongside Martin, other stars signed up include Colin Jackson, Christine McGuinness and Ashley Banjo.

Elsewhere, Martin’s co-star sent him a cheeky message about his upcoming appearance in the show.

Lucy Alexander admitted she won’t know where to look in a tweet to her good friend.

Yesterday she penned: “So for years we’ve talked about damp patches, cracks & semi’s…now he’s finally got the chance to shine.

“@TVMartinRoberts my old tv husband I cannot wait to see you in #thefullmonty all for a worthy cause & fab charity, leopard thong?

“Omg I’m scared but I know you’ll kill it.”

Martin was quick to reply as he quipped back: “Aww thank you for the support.

“Even though you’re my screen wife we’ve never consummated our relationship so I guess it will be a surprise for you too.

“Please look away.

“We’ll be working together again at some point and I need to be able to look you in the eye.”

The start date for the series has not yet been revealed but it will air on ITV later this year.
