Here’s How Much Terry Crews Is Really Worth

Terry Crews had a tough start in life, but the “America’s Got Talent” host is making up for his childhood now. Crews built a big nest egg by working hard as an actor, TV host, animation voice actor, and author. The “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star has endured challenges in his life, but he’s come out on top.

Crews was raised mainly by his mother; his dad was a physically abusive alcoholic. In a visit with Bear Grylls on National Geographic’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” Crews said he began working out at age five to protect himself and his mom from the abuse. Crew confessed, “Growing up was not a good experience. My father was very abusive. He used to beat my mother,” he told Grylls. “So it was one of those things where I knew I would have to get stronger because one day I thought I’d have to fight him. That’s how it started out.”

The Flint, Michigan native got strong, played football growing up, and went to college on a football scholarship. In 1991 the Los Angeles Rams drafted Crews. However, that wasn’t the solution that one might have assumed. After his time in the NFL ended, he found it hard to make his eventual transition into acting. “All of my fun things and great things come out of sadness, which is weird… My acting career: I was broke.” he said, per ABC News.

While he’s certainly not broke anymore, that situation motivated him to become the success he is today.

Terry Crews was motivated by hunger

After Terry Crews left the NFL in 1997, he became an actor because he was literally hungry. “Let me tell you what happens, you go broke, man, and you got to do something,” Crews told ABC News. “I was hungry. Your stomach is growling, and you realize these kids got to eat. And you’re like, man, I’m going to act. I’m going to cry on screen.” Crews and his wife Rebecca King have been married since 1989, and they have five children.

Crews certainly doesn’t have to worry about going hungry anymore. He is worth $25 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Crews built a high net worth through many acting jobs, hosting TV shows, and as a voice actor for animated films and TV. Crews is known today for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and as the host of “America’s Got Talent.” His work in “White Chicks,” and the TV series “Everybody Hates Chris,” is also memorable. The scope of his work as a voice actor is mind-blowing; he’s worked on “American Dad” and the Christian cartoon “Veggie Tales.”  Even with all his success, the actor was not done facing challenges.

In 2017, Crews revealed a Hollywood executive sexually assaulted him, sharing his story on Twitter during the Harvey Weinstein aftermath. Crews has since used his platform to advocate for change. “Hollywood has … a problem area simply because so many people view this as a dream,” he said, per ABC News. “But … someone has power over these dreams.” Keep fighting the good fight, Crews.
