Eamonn Holmes, 62, underwent major surgery on his back in September and has been absent from GB News ever since, with the star sharing his agonising pain on Twitter with his fans. As his co-star Isabel Webster confirmed Eamonn’s non attendance at the TV Choice Awards, the presenter recently revealed he has not been sleeping due to his chronic pain.

Sleep has eluded me this evening I’m afraid.

Eamonn gave an update on his health earlier this week as the presenter was forced awake in the early hours of the morning.

In view of his one million Twitter followers, at four o’clock in the morning, the broadcaster penned: “Sleep has eluded me this evening I’m afraid.

“Don’t want to waste the time so I’m going to start drawing up Christmas lists. Good idea or not?”

Many social media users rushed to the comments to share their well wishes to the former This Morning presenter.

Patricia_Deri said: “Eamonn, You gave me a good idea to take my mind off my pain. I made myself a cup of tea & am sitting looking at my Christmas list to see what I’ve left to do.

“Hopefully this relieves some of our pain & you’ll have a nice morning. You’re always in my prayers here.”

LeachSie added: “I always read when pain means I can’t sleep as it takes the mind off the pain and allows my body to relax. Writing lists is always a good idea as it clears the mind.”

Paulusdmc42 commented: “You still not much better than mate? You gotta do whatever takes your mind off the pains.”

This comes after Eamonn was noticeably absent from Monday evening’s TV Choice Awards, with his co-star Isabel issuing an update on his health last night.

Speaking to the Daily Star at the awards ceremony she revealed: “He had a scan today and was meant to be here with me but we should know more tomorrow.

“Hopefully he will be back on screens in January. Fingers crossed.”

After Eamonn underwent major back surgery in September he has been absent from GB News as he recovers, however he did appear via video link last month.

He said: “Last month I suffered a fall at home while I was recovering from my back operation and fractured my shoulder.

“It was a massive setback and means I’m going to need to take some extra time off to get myself better.

“It’s been a hellish few weeks. But day by day I’m improving, and I am remaining positive and trying to look on the bright side.”

Eamonn had the operation to ease the “pain and restrictions” that he had been suffering from for over 18 months.

The former This Morning presenter spoke out about his surgery in his Express.co.uk column in September.

Revealing why he’d opted to undergo the op on his back, he expressed: “I want my back fixed and my life back.

“I want to offer a good luck story to all of you who feel that you can no longer deal with your depression, your crying, your anger and that constant question of ‘why me?’

“Every recuperation is different. So, it could be a long time but, equally, it might be a short time until I am back in the hot seat on GB News. I’ll do my best to keep you posted.”
