Steph’s Packed Lunch airs its final show on Channel 4 today after almost four years – and co-host Denise Van Outen is devastated. Previously admitting she didn’t think she’d had so much fun on a show since her Big Breakfast stint more than 25 years ago, the 49-year-old star has sorrowfully paid tribute to it again today on Instagram.
However, to make matters worse, a bout of undisclosed illness means she won’t be able to join Steph to mark the final ever show. She shared a crying face emoji with her 719,000 followers as she lamented: “Sadly @packedlunchc4 ends today on @channel4.
“I’ve had the best time working on this brilliant daytime show. From my first day, I absolutely loved it and looked forward to my stint every week. “Some experiences in life are special, this has been one of them. The whole team make this show so much fun to work on,” she declared.
“Steph’s studio in the heart of Leeds dock has been filled with happiness,” Denise continued, before insisting it was “rare in TV to have a host with zero ego and everybody else’s best interests at heart”. Addressing her personally, she told Steph: “You are one of a kind, you truly are. Thank you for EVERYTHING!
“The show ends but our friendships continue. I’ve met so many fabulous people through this show. I will treasure the memories forever,” she vowed. “Sadly I can’t be there today due to illness but I will be celebrating (and sobbing no doubt) from my sofa. Big love to you all!”

She shared a carousel of photos of herself and Steph behind the scenes on the once enormously popular lunchtime show, plus a video clip entitled Denise’s Unbelievable Moments.
Featuring a string of gags, one showed Denise joking: “I do quite often Google animals mating – just because, honestly, it’s so funny!”
She also admitted she kept her dogs’ teeth in a drawer in her bedroom, prompting gasps of shock and laughter from the studio audience.
Yet there was more, as she added: “I’ve also got – get this – the stitches from when I had my appendix out when I was eight!”

Denise had previously clarified that she was “incredibly sad” over losing the fun atmosphere on the show as the end of its time on air drew near.
“I don’t think I’ve had this much fun working in TV since my Big Brekkie stint,” she declared in an Instagram post.
“There are no egos on this show, just a great group of people mucking in to make a fun inclusive entertainment show!”
Fans have expressed how much they’ll miss it, with one poignantly exclaiming: “End of an era! Well done team!”
