Cristiano Ronaldo to miss Liverpool match after baby son’s tragic death

Footballing legend Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be playing in tonight’s game, Tuesday 19 April, in the wake of the devastating passing of his baby boy.

Cristiano, 37, and his partner Georgina Rodriguez, 28, announced the heartbreaking news yesterday that one of their twin babies had passed away.

The pair announced that they were expecting twins in October last year, to later reveal that they were having a girl and a boy.

While Cristiano and Georgina's little boy tragically didn’t survive, they have welcomed a little girl.

Following the news of their son’s devastating passing, Cristiano won’t be playing in Manchester United’s highly anticipated game against Liverpool this evening.

The club said in a statement: “Family is more important than everything + Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time.

"As such, we confirm he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield and we underline the family's request for privacy."

Liverpool FC have since voiced their condolences to the football superstar, writing: “All of us here at Liverpool FC send our deepest condolences to you, Georgina and the family."

Announcing the heartbreaking news of their son’s death, Cristiano and Georgina said in a shared statement: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.

"It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.

"Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support.

"We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

The couple already share daughter Alana, three, while Cristiano also has son Cristiano Jnr, 11, and twins Eva and Mateo, four.

In light of the heartbreaking news, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Piers Morgan have sent their condolences to the family.

Marcus wrote on Twitter: "Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother I’m so sorry", while Piers said: “Heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to you and all your family".

Meanwhile, Cristiano's sister Katia Aveiro shared a photo of the couple on her Instagram page and wrote: "I love you and my heart is with you over there. May God take care of you and strengthen your path more and more.

"Our angel is already on father's lap. And our little girl is there firm and strong and full of health and is going to show us with every day that only love matters."
