Coronation Street’s Alan Halsall has told fans he is facing up to a year in recovery after having surgery to replace one of the ligaments in his knee.
He told his 233,000 Instagram followers last night that he had his “feet up at home” after having Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction a few days ago – and the journey to recovery is expected to be a long one.
Sharing a photo of himself reclining in bed while giving a thumbs up sign, the 41-year-old actor explained: “Well, on Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well.
“I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family & friends I’ll get there.”
He followed up with a shout out to the nursing staff at Oaklands clinic and his partner and “very own nurse Ratched”, Tisha Drew Merry.

Tisha played Steph Britton on the cobbles between 2013 and 2018, before fleeing to escape Corrie’s fearsome serial killer Pat Phelan (played by Connor McIntyre) – and she hasn’t returned to soapland since.
Her bond with Alan endured beyond the show, however, and within a year of her leaving, they began a relationship.
The former actress, who now works as a travel ambassador, has been comforting Alan through his surgery, as has his ten-year-old daughter Sienna from a previous relationship with ex Lucy-Jo Hudson.
Alan is believed to have suffered his injury over the summer, leading to a ligament in his knee needing to be totally replaced.

The gruelling surgery involves replacing the damaged ligament, which has typically been sprained or torn, with a tendon from a different part of the knee.
According to the Bupa website, the procedure is done through keyhole surgery and usually takes between one and three hours.
It could take up to 14 weeks before Alan will be fit enough to climb stairs, and a return to sport will take between six and 12 months.
On-screen sisters Georgia Taylor (Toyah Habeeb) and Jane Dobson (Leanne Battersby) were among those to send warm wishes while he recovered, with the latter exclaiming: “Oh Al hope you’re ok love! We’ll all look after you in Weatherfield!”
Colson Smith, who plays Corrie’s policeman Craig Tinker, urged him: “Get that rested up for Christmas party!”
Meanwhile, fans also inundated Alan with good luck comments as he heals, with more than 4,000 hitting the like button.
@the_lynch01 advised: “Do your exercises RELIGIOUSLY brother – I had a full titanium knee replacement a year [ago] best thing ever but you gotta be disciplined physio physio physio hospital and at home.” (sic)
Meanwhile, fans quizzed him on what his injury might mean for his rumoured stint in the next edition of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, after it was reported that he was “in talks” to appear in the jungle, but he hasn’t responded to queries yet.
