Former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison has teased a potential return to the world of soaps, 20 years after shooting to fame on the Liverpool-based show.
The actress, 40, was a fan favourite on the legendary cul-de-sac where she played Emily Shadwick for five years. Her character was dramatically killed off during a siege, when she fell through a window.
Sadly, Brookside was axed in 2003 due to poor viewing figures – though there are rumours it could be making a much anticipated return. Mirror reports Jennifer revealed she “couldn't say no” and would “go back in a heartbeat”' if she was asked to take part. If the show did make a comeback, it would join a string of revivals including Byker Grove, Deal or No Deal and more.
Jennifer became a household name thanks to Brookside, and has consistently worked in television ever since. Last year, she took part in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins where she managed to overcome a phobia.
Addressing the phobia, she said: "At first I was absolutely mortified having to go to the toilet in the parade square, but you’re in the middle of the desert and you’ve just got Ferne [McCann] dropping her cacks and having a wee and in the end it just became normal, we’d all just go together.
"So it was crazy how you adapt to it because I actually have a phobia of public toilets, never mind a bucket with everybody else’s wee and poo in it. I like my luxuries, my comfy bed, so it’s just crazy how your body adapts to it, things you thought that you just couldn’t cope with. It’s incredible."
Earlier this year, Brookside was revived for a new generation of fans to enjoy after STV Player struck a new deal with distributor, All3Media International. The show's entire backlog of episodes became available to stream. In February, Jennifer celebrated the news with a trip down memory lane.
The Celebrity SAS star shared several screengrabs of her character during the show’s run. Captioning the carousel of images, she penned: "So brilliant that @wearestv1 are showing Brookside again. Loving seeing all these old pics. Those were the days!"
Fans of the soap flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts. Love Island season one star Hannah Elizabeth said: “Omg brooki was the best”, while one fan agreed: “Such a good soap”. A third added: “My childhood was watching brookie… my kids just don’t understand the excitement I have”.
